Fantasy Premier League gameweek four preview: Is it time to play the wildcard?

It’s gameweek four of Fantasy Premier after the long international break.

Gameweek three saw Newcastle United defender Ciaran Clark score 15 points which was the highest for that week.

With the transfer market ending in between the international break, EPL clubs were engaged on the final day of the transfer window as they signed more players, majority of who can break straight into the starting XI of various teams. The question of FPL Managers playing the wildcard thus arises.

The chip can be used twice in a season, once in the first half and second half of the campaign respectively. The wildcard chip is used to make unlimited transfers without points being deducted.

With players like Serge Aurier, Mamadou Sakho and many more signings during the rush hour and also the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Alexis Sanchez, Riyad Mahrez, Virgil Van Dijk unable to force a move away from their respective clubs, not forgetting that Eden Hazard is likely to return from injury this weekend, FPL Managers will be in a state of temptation to consider making use of their wildcard chip.

It is advisable to wait until week six to play the wildcard and the reason is to make sure FPL managers are able to assess the starting XI potentials of the late transfer arrivals at various clubs.

Away from the wildcard, here are tips for gameweek four.

Goalkeepers

Southampton’s Fraser Forster (£5.0m) and West Bromwich Albion’s Ben Foster (£4.5m) have kept two clean sheets so far this this season.

The Saints hosts Watford at Vicarage Road while the Baggies lock horns with Brighton and Hove Albion. The potentials of both goalkeepers keeping clean sheets is thus high.

Defenders

Burnley face struggling Crystal Place at Selhurst Park and defender Ben Mee (£4.5m) is a huge potential for points as Burnley hardly concede at home against mid table teams.

Manchester United defender Daley Blind (£5.5m) offers lots of attacking threats with delightful crosses and the Dutchman is never shy of trying a long range effort. Blind can cause trouble against Stoke City this weekend and is worth the pick.

Midfielders

Leicester City welcomes Chelsea to the King Power Stadium and Pedro Rodriguez (£7.9m) returns after getting injured before the season kickoff. The former Barcelona man is an all-round midfielder whose work rate are potentials for bonus points. The Spaniard is full of assists and goals from both legs and can cover long distance to help in defence.

Riyad Mahrez (£8.5m) will be a threat to the Blues defence as he can equally come to the party. The Algerian has been in fine form for Leicester City this season despite seeking a move away from the club.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (£8.4m) scored a brace for Iceland as they defeated Ukraine in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday meaning he’s in fine form ahead of the clash with Tottenham Hotspur. FPL Managers should consider him as one of the players to rack in the points.

Strikers

West Ham United are yet to win a game this season and they square up against newly promoted Huddersfield Town who are yet to concede. The Hammers will thus need the goal scoring prowess of Javier Hernandez (£7.1m) who already has two goals to his name.

Burnley’s Sam Vokes (£6.0m) is a low budget forward that can compound more woes on Crystal Palace who have conceded six goals in their three Premier League games.

You can look towards these frontmen for some rewarding points.

Hope these tips help in your transfers. Enjoy the weekend.
