Liverpool 2017/2018 Season Preview

Liverpool are the second most successful team in English football but the Kop have not won a league title in 27 years. This is laughable considering they have 19 league titles and their epic collapse in 2013 – symbolized by a Steven Gerard slip that gifted Chelsea a 2-0 win, makes for a painful history for the new generation.

The Reds have seen the stream of silverware trickle down to barely a drop now with the last trophy coming in the 2012 League Cup final against Championship outfit Cardiff City, which even required a penalty shootout to decide the winner after extra time. They last won the FA cup 11 years ago and recently missed out on winning the Europa League, losing the 2016 final to Sevilla in Basel.

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have shown signs of life albeit in stretches. The Anfield giants managed to finish fourth last term and will now play in the Uefa Champions League qualifiers. The addition of Mohammed Salah will add even more pace to already the fastest team in the English top flight alongside Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi.

All these names can strike fear into any defense in the world but history simply won’t put Liverpool as genuine Premier League title contenders. However with an electric squad handled by an eccentric manager, the Merseyside outfit might just prove all their detractors wrong or will it be the same of the same tale come next May?

I’m optimistic about the REDS this season. Instincts tells me they will clinch a trophy this season and even bounce back into the top 4 in the EPL. Suffice to say I am confident bc my instincts have never failed me.
