Caroline Garcia reaches WTA Finals last four as Svitolina beats Halep

Caroline Garcia produced a stunning fightback against Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki to progress to the WTA Finals semi-finals at the expense of world number one Simona Halep.

The French lady recovered from a disappointing first set to beat her Danish opponent 0-6 6-3 7-5, and then had to wait for the result of the final round-robin match in Singapore.

Elina Svitolina beat top seed Halep 6-3 6-4 to ensure Garcia won the Red Group.

Karolina Pliskova will replace Halep as number one if she wins the title.

The semi-final line-up on Saturday sees eighth seed Garcia take on American fifth seed Venus Williams, and sixth seed Wozniacki up against Czech third seed Pliskova.
